I had a really encouraging call with one of my TeachBeyond supervisors this week. She was in the midst of some family struggles, and as she checked in on where I was at, I gave some more context for how the delayed botox treatment has been impacting my life. She mentioned how she’d remembered it as a prayer point months ago but since I didn’t bring it up often, she’d thought it’d been resolved. Another friend here made a similar comment a couple of weeks ago.
My life is impacted by my disability, and while I try to be transparent about it, I also don’t like to wallow in the shortcomings that it brings about. The truth is, this botox treatment that I was meant to get in May has a significant impact on my quality of life and ability to do my job. When it was delayed, there were small impacts on my energy levels, but over time it’s increased and has had a pretty detrimental overall influence on my day to day. The ripple effect has led to less output which I reflected on last week, but I also want to celebrate that I’m still able to serve and be a part of God’s work with this reduced capacity.
As I shared with Lindsay my disappointment that I wasn’t as productive as I’d like to be in my role the past few months, she pointed out one of the small things I managed to accomplish that will have a lasting positive effect on our organisation. I’m so grateful that I can still be a part of quality TCK care work happening within TeachBeyond. I also had a pretty exciting Friday night as one of the young people at youth group told me that she decided to follow Jesus and three young guys asked if they could get baptised – plus another one found me this morning and asked to get baptised as well.
What a joy to be a part of this movement having offered my tiny loaves and fishes that really didn’t seem like much and see this offering spread out among young people being transformed by the Holy Spirit. I’m still looking forward to the botox treatment in a few weeks increasing my capacity, but I know it’s more about joining in the work that God is already doing where he has made space for me to be welcomed and at home.
Laura, The fact that you are being faithful to our Lord is the main thing.
