Europapa

Iceland was robbed, I tell you. ROBBED. I’ll consider this heartbreak equal to Joost Klein, and I’ll not ever be able to clearly track how I’ve become this person who is so invested in Eurovision. My wild life took me to a town near Basel for ten years, and I can’t quite express how heartbreaking it is to know Baby Lasagna is there now and I am not. Listen, Eurovision doesn’t make sense to anyone, but here we are spread around the world reading stories of an American living in New Zealand who was hosted by a Norwegian-Kiwi household to watch Europe’s most popular event live on YouTube. The internet is brilliant.

I’m grateful for a life that lets me have friends of so many backgrounds and interests. I also know that means I’m always a little out of place everywhere I go, but I so value how I get to have this beautiful mixed up diverse life.

Amidst a few foreign feeling moments, I had a few genuine gems of knowing I’m at home recently.

This week was a lot of jumbled things that I still haven’t untangled, and maybe just sharing the joy of two Icelandic brothers and their song about a boat is enough to capture the odd beauty of my current state.

    100% agree!

Would have loved to see Eurovision live in Basel! And also agree that Iceland was robbed. And agree that America is out of touch with the fun-ness that is Eurovision (as proved by the fact that I had to use a VPN to get the video to play as it was otherwise “unavailable in my country”)!
