Remember You’re Not Dead

I wasn’t sick this week, but I had a lot to do to make up for my sick days. I haven’t got it all done, and I honestly won’t get a chance to reschedule every catch up that I was supposed to have last Friday, but this most recent Friday I had the joy of heading on camp with three of my youth who are developing leaders in our church. How cool to be a part of a weekend of intentional growth alongside some of the up and coming leaders of this next generation.

Have I mentioned lately I love my job?

Plus I got to hang out with amazing leaders of leaders like Craig and Lance and Emma. By God’s amazing grace I’m somehow in a peer group with these people, and if you could see Craig’s karate moves while telling young people that God is pumped about their gifts and wants to see them sharing good things with the world you would get why I enjoy this camp. Also if you could hear my year elevens brainstorming how they want to envision cool things in our youth group to help people go deeper with Jesus. I love this stuff.

I’m also exhausted.

I had a beautiful time on camp, but I had to leave early to get back to church in time for our 6pm service. I love being a part of the team at RCC, and how cool to share and serve and celebrate the encouraging and challenging words of Colossians 3. Did you know that you’ve got this option of resurrection life available thanks to the work of Jesus?

I got a good laugh with my church whānau as I admitted to the whole congregation that I’ve downloaded an app that gives me points for accomplishing tasks on a to do list that includes things like “brush your teeth,” “get out of bed,” and “drink water.” And special laughter for my personal inclusion of “remember that you’re not dead.”

My dudes, I need the reminder.

But also, do you know how awesome it is to be alive? I don’t have to live like the dead slanderous, ragefull, greedy masses. I can live alive clothed in compassion and kindness, covered in love.
