I spent a good chunk of this week hunkered down recovering from jet lag and just generally introverting after several weeks of non-stop people interaction.
I also went back to the office and got to put in a work week at a job I love. Being who I am, I ended up with some opportunity for nuanced conversations, and I cannot share loudly enough how grateful I am to be in this faith community that handles hard topics with compassion and grace. Multiple pastors and elders offered me encouragement this week as I navigated doing my job well. I’m so, so loved here.
A friend wrapped me in a hug when she saw me this morning and said a big, “Welcome home!” emphasising this is where I belong. Another pulled out a lap blanket she’d crocheted for me – double thick to keep me warm in the winter. I don’t take lightly these interactions, and I hope that I can be a part of making a church home welcoming to others who are seeking warmth and shelter and need to know Jesus.
We’re starting a version of Alpha run by members of our church in their homes with friends this year. I’m hopeful this is a creative avenue to share more of who Jesus is with people in our city. I know lives are transformed by Jesus; I know mine has been.
