Day 18 of 40 Days of Prayer

For those of you praying along with me for miracles these forty days, please read aloud this Psalm with my name and ask God to reveal new feeling and function in my body.

Psalm 39 (NIV)

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

1 Laura says, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”

2 So Laura remained utterly silent,

not even saying anything good. But her anguish increased;

3 Laura’s heart grew hot within her.

While Laura meditated, the fire burned; then she spoke with her tongue:

4 “Show Laura, Lord, her life’s end and the number of her days; let Laura know how fleeting her life is.

5 You have made Laura’s days a mere handbreadth;

the span of her years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.

6 “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom;

in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.

7 “But now, Lord, what does Laura look for?

Laura’s hope is in you.

8 Save Laura from all her transgressions; do not make her the scorn of fools.

9 Laura is silent; she will not open her mouth, for you are the one who has done this.

10 Remove your scourge from Laura;

Laura is overcome by the blow of your hand.

11 When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, you consume their wealth like a moth— surely everyone is but a breath.

12 “Hear Laura’s prayer, Lord,

listen to her cry for help; do not be deaf to Laura’s weeping. Laura dwells with you as a foreigner, a stranger, as all her ancestors were.

13 Look away from Laura, that she may enjoy life again

before she departs and she’s no more.”
